I have been proud to call Airdrie home for 47 years and to serve our community on City Council for four terms. Over that time, I have witnessed an average annual growth rate of more than six percent. As I seek a fifth term, I am committed to applying a steady, common-sense approach to planning and growth, ensuring Airdrie remains one of the most desirable places to live, work, and raise a family.
When I moved to Airdrie in 1978 and graduated from George McDougall High School the following year, our population was just 2,500. Today, we are approaching 91,000. I remember angle parking on Main Street, the first traffic lights being installed, and a time when there were only three schools in town. Watching Airdrie grow while preserving its sense of community has been one of my greatest sources of pride.
My wife, Cheryl, and I are blessed with six children and seventeen grandchildren. Through our family, we have been deeply involved in our community. Cheryl dedicated 23 years to Girl Guides,17 of those as a leader, while I have volunteered with organizations including the Airdrie Boys and Girls Club, Junior Forest Rangers, and Airdrie Family Services. In recent years, I have also been honored to contribute as a member of 100 Men Who Give a Damn.
Professionally, I have managed Tiger Propane, a locally owned family business, for the past seven years, providing propane, fittings, and cylinder re-qualification services. Prior to that, many residents knew me as the “helpful handyman” during my years with Home Hardware and Totem Building Centre.
I believe effective leadership begins with listening. I live by the principle:
“I have two ears and one mouth, and I listen twice as much as I talk. When you speak, you should not only be heard, but understood.”
I approach every decision with diplomacy, fairness, and the long-term well-being of our entire community in mind. I understand that it is impossible to make 100 percent of residents happy 100 percent of the time, but I want the citizens of Airdrie to know that I make every decision with the betterment of our city as my guiding purpose.
Beyond my work on Council, I have been a licensed pilot for 37 years and a certified PADI rescue diver. On a lighter note, I am proud to hold the title of ATB Chicken Wing Eating Champion, having earned it eight times while raising funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Airdrie and Airdrie Family Services/Community Links.
With over a decade of experience, a calm and measured approach under pressure, and a deep love for this city, I remain committed to serving Airdrie with integrity, common sense, and a vision for a strong future.
